An unmissable event in the field of terminology
The EAFT Terminology Summit aims at creating a solid platform for terminology and multilingualism and brings together all the institutions that work in the field of terminology. It is held every two years and in 2018 it will take place on the 22 and 23 November at the Kursaal Congress Centre in Donostia / San Sebastián, organized by EAFT in collaboration with UZEI. It will comprise six presentation sessions, three poster sessions and a series of associated events (among which are the International Terminology Awards ‒ITAs‒ and the annual EAFT General Assembly).
3M4Q: Quality, at the heart of this year’s Summit
Both the presentation sessions and the poster sessions will provide a view on best practices, interesting projects and initiatives carried out all over the world in the field of terminology which are related to the theme of this year’s Summit: “3M4Q: Making, Managing, Measuring Terminology. In the pursuit of Quality”.
In terminology work, as in any other activity, it is vital to ensure the quality of the work that has been done. Good planning and methodology of terminology work, as well as well-prepared terminologists, are key from that point of view, and the Summit will discuss questions related to the optimization of those aspects.
But apart from ensuring quality, terminology work must be efficiently disseminated so that it reaches its intended end users, and in that regard, it is also important that those users are aware of the importance of terminology. The Summit will provide a vision on the best practices in terminology dissemination, and will search for valuable ideas for fostering the implementation of terminology in a specific field.
It is also vital for terminology work to measure the extent to which its outcome has been successful: terminometry provides the feedback necessary for future terminology work to adapt to the needs of the end users of terminology, and will also be discussed at the Summit.
